I love learning about different cultures and learning from people who I meet. Is that considered a micro aggression? Reply from @natenakao: @ferociousflamingo Asking about someone's cultural background can get dicey unless you're in a close friendship with them. If they were made fun of for the lunches/snacks they brought into school or mocked because of the eye size or embarrassed of their parents' broken English, their relationship to their cultural background might be a painful one. Or they could be a transnational adoptee raised by people who unknowingly suppressed their ethnicity, preventing them from gaining any meaningful understanding of their cultural background, and they might be ashamed to admit that to a stranger. Or they might have grown up around whte kids and tried to distance themselves from their cultural background only to discover later in life that they have very little understanding of their heritage, which could be a point of shame for them. Bottom line, it's probably best to get to know them as a person. Your desire to learn about different cultures can be satiated by watching YouTube videos. Try to avoid putting people in potentially uncomfortable situations just to satisfy your curiosity.
