Not at all, I like GUI apps, and Mint is even more user friendly there in my opinion
Like for example you can download the deb file for discord and double click install it in a GUI

Point is, to answer your question, what it has over Ubuntu is the Cinnamon desktop and using flatpak by default, in my opinion it has incredible defaults
As a power user etc, I still would be using Mint myself if I wasn't pulled in by something else I won't get into
And you can absolutely have a good time with Ubuntu and GNOME, I just don't think it's what people coming back to or trying out Linux for the first time should have as a first impression
