He doesn't respect albatrosses. He doesn't respect gannets. He doesn't respect gulls. He doesn't respect skuas. He doesn't respect kittiwakes, or petrels or cormorants. He doesn't respect storm-petrels, or jaegers or terns. My dumb-dicked husband doesn't respect shearwaters. I love all the puffins, fulmars, pelicans. But this jerk doesn't care. He doesn't respect frigatebirds. Or prions, or terns or auks, or auklets. I cry over the dovekies and guillemots and murres. Not because he ate a bird, but because I love them. The murrelets! The noddies! The cormorants. The skimmers and tropicbirds slicing through winds. that would wreck any ship. He doesn't respect pelicans, or razorbills. My once-to-be husband doesn't even respect boobies.
I'M READY TO MARRY, MY CUNT IS THE SUN Gold drips down my legs when I think about my husband, who is laid down in tall grass, dick up like a maypole. I kiss at the air, thinking about pearls. Wow, pearls! I'm very into pearls. On the ground, people scurry and get into cars. The cars are so funny. I make them crash with my mind. Light pours onto the earth: I'm wetter than the ocean, whom I look at with love, and pee into for days. My husband wakes up: it's time to get married. He's jealous of the ocean, and eats an albatross. I get mad and start yelling about how he doesn't respect seabirds. I leave him at the altar, make a tsunami with my mind. I say 'I need space,' and I go into space where I admire, for a time, the horsehead nebula.

Protein When I met Astra Horn she was living in a fallow cornfield. Sleeping under the stars, letting insects crawl in her hair as she slept. She woke each morning to a woodpecker rattling into a telephone pole. I met her there one morning when I was young and she was old, but I returned to meet her there when I was old and she was young. The next time I went to the field she was ancient and I was a toddler, strayed from my mother's side in a nearby K-Mart parking lot that was there at the time, but was not present long before or after. After that I kept attending the field at all times of day and night, decades and centuries, stars moving, ice ages decimating the corn field into stone, megafauna treading by, just missing the face of Astra Horn who was composed of molecular clusters that bonded to the side of a plant we have never named in the form of a slime mold we will never have a genus for. I was a lonely Paraceratherium crushing scrubby sage with my big flat feet, head wandering through the air as I caught the distant scent of fire. Our final meeting was me as an old woman and her as an old woman and I said nothing to her and she said nothing because there was no language at the time, but I made sounds all the same and she agreed, I could tell, because she put her fingers in my hair and pulled out a spider, which she ate before we kissed, for the protein it contained.
