Upcoming Change to AI-Assisted Search and Ask This Document (AI Ask) Effective September 1, 2026, EBSCO will transition AI-Assisted Search and Ask This Document (AI Ask) beta from opt-in to opt-out, making both features available by default across applicable researcher interfaces, including EBSCOhost and EBSCO Discovery Service. Libraries will continue to have full administrative control through EBSCO Experience Manager (EEM). Any existing customizations or decisions to disable these features will remain unchanged through the transition. EBSCO initially used an opt-in model to respect libraries’ varying policies and readiness to adopt AI. However, customers reported that limited awareness, competing priorities, and uncertainty about administrative responsibilities often prevented enablement. Customer feedback and usage data also indicate that these features help researchers discover and use trusted, library-provided content more easily. Moving to an opt-out model will make the features more accessible while preserving institutional choice. Libraries may disable either feature based on their policies, and both are clearly labeled and optional for users. "Matthew Noe, a Worcester resident, said parking minimums should be “abolished,” saying they take up too much space for cars instead of building more homes for people. “I look around downtown Worcester and see endless stretches of empty parking lots most of the time,” Noe said. “It’s poor land use and creates heat islands.” Noe was surprised but pleased to learn that Batista wanted to reduce parking minimums, calling the proposal a “great move.”"

"It comes after a lot of discourse politically around diversity, equity and inclusion at universities and just free speech in general at universities, art displays, at campuses from Florida to Texas and across the nation," Schrader said. NPR and NPR member stations have previously reported on the University of North Carolina board of governors voting to repeal the school's DEI policy in 2024; last year, lawmakers in Ohio introduced measures to limit or eliminate DEI initiatives at all public universities in their state. "It's not like they were directly censored," Schrader said of UNT. "There were no politicians that directly came and said, 'You cannot have this show.'" Schrader said that's where the real story is. The White House has withheld billions from federally-funded universities whose diversity and inclusion policies do not align with those of President Trump. This is similar to policies enacted in some state legislatures around the country. In 2023, Texas began abolishing DEI programs at state-funded colleges and universities — including UNT — via a state senate bill.
