Jeff Bridges: It's so bizarre here in this wealthy, wealthiest country in the world, we have enough food, we have enough money, we have enough programs to end childhood hunger and to use, use feeding kids as a weapon, you know, going back and forth doesn't make any sense. You know, Billy and I have been traveling all over the country talking to governors and mayors in the in the states themselves. And Republicans, Democrats, independents, they all agree that you know, we should feed our kids. There's no reason not to do that. And to have the feds, getting in the way of this thing is it's talk about bizarre, it certainly is.

Text: The One Big Beautiful Bill’s SNAP cuts aren’t fiscal responsibility—they’re a $285 billion gut punch to vulnerable Americans while funneling $56 billion to corporate agribusiness. Section 10006 forces states to foot 25% of SNAP admin costs, guaranteeing red states will slash benefits first. Meanwhile, Title 2001(b)(1) inflates crop insurance subsidies for mega-farms but leaves 73% of actual farmers without coverage. Real reform would cut pharma middlemen, not punish working families. This bill’s a raw deal wrapped in spin.

This morning, the House of Representatives voted to advance its budget reconciliation bill, which includes roughly $300 billion in cuts to SNAP. The Senate will now take this bill under consideration. “A vote for this bill was a vote to increase childhood hunger. The majority in the House is turning their backs on families in need, putting families, including the 14 million kids who receive grocery benefits through SNAP, at greater risk of not having enough nutritious food to eat if this bill becomes law. “This proposal reflects the largest and most extreme cuts to SNAP in history, increasing red tape and bureaucracy for working families, cutting the value of future benefits and trying to sneak in billions of dollars in cuts by forcing an unprecedented and impossible cost burden onto states. These cuts will do nothing to improve the lives of Americans and will make it even harder for those who do receive benefits to afford enough food to feed their families. “We will continue to work with the Senate to reject the harmful cuts to SNAP in the House bill, and return to bipartisan negotiations that will actually strengthen and improve nutrition security for kids and families.”
