Tsunami waves in Hawaii are predicted to be 3-10 feet, while In Santa Barbara, the wave height is predicted to be 1-2 feet. For comparison, in Japan in 2011 some wave heights were 42 feet, Jones said. “It’s not a wave,” she said. “That’s how much the sea level rises temporarily.” Crescent City in northern California is expected to get 6-foot waves in its harbour, she added. The predicted wave height for Santa Barbara is higher than that for Washington or British Columbia in Canada - even though California is further away - because of the pattern forming in the ocean, she said. Dr Jones said she’d been speaking with a camp counselor on Catalina Island - off the coast of Los Angeles - where waves are expected to hit around 01:00 local time (09:00 BST).
We can learn from Trump the importance of telling a simple, understandable story and sticking to it. Pro-democracy forces need to pick a message and repeat it again and again to drive it home. There is surely no one in America who has not heard the phrase Make America Great Again and does not associate Maga with Trump. We can learn to appeal to national pride and drive home that national greatness requires addressing the daily experiences of ordinary Americans in language of the kind they use. Make America Affordable Again. Make America Work Again for Everyone. Think X, Instagram, and what works on a podcast. Pro-democracy forces can learn to be as determined and undaunted in defense of democracy as the president has been in his assault on it. Take off the gloves. Show your teeth, take no prisoners. Trump has shown that it matters to voters not just what you stand for but also how you go about standing for it.
The root n-f-d is the verb “to shake” or “to shake off.” Think of tapping the ashes off the end of a cigarette or shaking the dust out of an old rug. One of the awzan of the root that converts it into its passive form is iNtiFaDa, which means “a shaking off.” When this word is used to describe a singular historical occurrence, it means a popular uprising — in other words, a peoples’ shaking off of oppression.
