Statement from the International Oarball Union As an international organization, the International Oarball Union and its members are affected by events around the world, including those not related to sport. In particular, because a sizable number of oarball players play in the United States, events in and involving the United States are of particular importance to our members. Recent events have caused severe instability in the region, and as such the following actions are being taken: Reallocation of Funds Normally, dues paid by leagues sanctioned by the IOU go towards development in that local area: a combination of funding youth programs, referee and coach training, equipment supply, worker wages, and charitable aid to nearby communities in need. However, in light of recent events, funds will be allocated specifically towards humanitarian assistance in impacted regions Recognition of Refugee Team For all future World Cup of Oarball events, the Refugee Team will now be admitted. All persons who are fleeing violence, instability, or famine in their homeland, or who for any reason do not have legal status in the nation of their birth, are eligible to play on the Refugee Team. Diversification of Governance Program Currently, the IOU is dominated by Americans. Through this program, voices from across the globe will be sought out and brought into leadership positions in the IOU. While these actions are small, especially given the current state of global oarball, we hope that through collective effort, we can all make the world a better place.
