Back when the KEXP session was first blowing up the line we'd see often was "they're subverting celebrity/influencer culture" and I've never liked this, shifting focus to these characters does not eschew anything, it just gives the masses a new way to engage with the act without seriously engaging with the music
Earlier this year we were lucky enough to take a guitar lesson from a major influence of ours, and that was a very important moment for us not because of anything we were actually taught, but because it made us realize that the talents of those who we look up to are something we could aspire towards and indeed reach given time, rather than some mystical gift granted to them and not us by powers unknown
