That's something that's always confused me: Given the prevalence of EMM386 included with later versions of MS-DOS, just how important/relevant were these things?
I think the trick on this was the sell the company right before Microsoft announced Windows 95.
Good stuff! DESQview stands out to me, seems to have been the king of multi-node DOS BBS multitasking. The package I'm running, Ezycom, has explicit support for it. My Win32 "telnet to FOSSIL" bridge emulates it for the ntvdm session, too.
"Vintage bookshelf photos" should be a proper thing.
