Also banning is not going back. You can never go back. If you did you'd be stuck in a loop anyway. Banning these things is going forward. They were not banned before. You're in a cool new potential future and secure present if you ban harmful chemicals or pollution or unethical technology.
I'd be more interested in the number of km driven per person than the number of cars per person. A high ownership may point to wealth rather than pollution. km per person, number of trips pp and trips with single car occupant would interest me more. The USA has the most cars, most pp & more than EU
