Darn. I've maybe lost another cordon apple tree to canker. One of the inescapable perils of growing trees on an #allotment site, alas. A couple of weeks back, I cut off the affected top-growth, just above the cane. Hopefully there's enough scion left for regrowth to kick in this growing season.

Darren, could you please tell me how can I induce a rootstock (M9) that's come up from a tree I cut down to sprout roots so I can move it? I've grafted a scion on to it which is growing really well, I've put a pot around it and filled with soil to 15 cm, but no sign of roots after 6 months.
