On the right: sparse, stunted leaves. Two main branch sections are affected, the third is fine. Any expert grower thoughts on this one? 馃

Amateur grower thought: any evidence of ermine moth on the weaker bit? A few of my young plums got battered early spring and remain light on leaves.
looks like the beginning of a ermine moth infestation. Any (biological) kills them off quite quickly. Personally I would spray trees early spring so whatever comes crawling out of the bark is nipped in the but
No expert but FWIW, we had very similar on a young plum tree this year. I suspected aphids but none visible. I sprayed and massaged with clean water and it's mostly recovered. Similar on part of one of our espaliered apples... same and has recovered.
