National formula - The capability ratings are used to calculate funding allocations for local authorities for integrated settlements. This includes revenue funding to local authorities to boost technical capability to deliver high quality schemes as well as capital to develop and construct schemes. Ratings are used to guide indicative allocations for active travel funding. Higher rated authorities are eligible to access more funding, ensuring that investment is appropriate to the level of capability. 2025 Update On 3 February 2025, work on improvements for the Victoria Northeastern Gateway will begin and is estimated to last until October 2025. This scheme will improve cycling and walking facilities in the Victoria Northeastern area by improving access to local centres for cyclists and pedestrians. The designs will give better access to the city centre, joining up and improving public spaces, as well as link the New Islington Metrolink with the proposed M62 Express Bus Corridor.

Extract from Manchester City Council report .14 Cycle hangars - Lack of space to securely store a bike at home is a key barrier to people taking up cycling. Cycle hangar schemes have been successfully implemented in several London boroughs and other major British cities to address this issue. Officers have been working to confirm the legal process of siting hangars within the carriageway and procuring a suitable supplier. We expect to install hangars at around 10 pilot locations in early 2025, focussing on areas where there is known demand and a large percentage of terraced houses or apartments. Each hangar can hold six standard cycles and takes up the same amount of space as half a parked car.

analysis of GM's roads shows that different types of vehicles present different levels of risk to other road users. In the results, shown in Table 2, we can see that car drivers are predominantly injured in collisions which only involve cars. Conversely, pedestrians are most frequently injured in collisions which involve cars, goods vehicles and other motorised vehicles, and this is the same for cyclists and motorcyclists.

Vulnerable road users are at greater risk on our roads When we look at the mode which casualties were travelling in when they were killed or seriously injured on GM's roads, we find that the greatest proportion of those who suffer death or serious injury are pedestrians, followed by car drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists and car passengers. A further 4% of killed or seriously injured casualties were in buses, goods vehicles, or other motorised vehicles. These percentages don't consider how many miles are walked, cycled, ridden or driven but they do show how vulnerable road users (those who are not protected inside a vehicle) account for two thirds of those killed or seriously injured.
Answered on 12 November 2024 The Government has no intention of requiring all cyclists to display number plates or to have insurance. A national registration scheme for all cycles would be complex and expensive to design and administer. As for insurance, the Government believes that this should remain a matter of personal choice. Some cyclists already have third party insurance via their membership of cycling organisations. Cyclists who are not insured are liable for the consequences of their actions should these result in injury or damages to others.
