The sky is black but the station platform disappearing into the distance is lit. In the distance is a footbridge and the station building. Beyond the speck of green light for the signal on the down line (toward Brighton) and a speck of red light on the up line. Shouldn’t that signal face the other way? Actually both lines are bi-directionally signalled so there are signals facing both ways on each line. Why, so they can close one line for maintenance or emergencies and run trains both ways on the other. In 20 years of commuting I’ve only traveled “wrong line” once.

Cut away of a low bypass gas turbine (that is no big fan at the front ejecting cold air out the back). Compressor stages are edged in blue, turbine stages in red. I believe the combustion chamber is pink. There’s a reheat stage (after-burner) at the back so clearly a military engine.
A big black 4-6-0 express locomotive that has the cylinders, valves, smoke box, fire box, boiler, fire tubes, superheater tubes and steam dome all sectioned to reveal what’s inside.
