It captures the *experience* of a comic - coming in to a story mid-way and learning about all these characters with established relationships.

It's very much like getting a mid-arc issue of, like, an X-Men book. They are closing out one plot thread (the building and testing of the car) and start another (encountering the Red and Black Lectroids). They run into a new character by happenstance (New Jersey) and add him to the team.
