Oxfraud @oxfraud.com · Feb 13 1/ Excellent. This history tells us a lot about the paintings. Philip Herbert's is by Dutch artist Daniël Mijtens, whose patron was Thomas Howard, 21st Earl of Arundel. There are two paintings by him in the collection: Herbert's and Rudyerd. They don't know when these were acquired.

2/ Seems these portraits could have been acquired simply to have some paintings by one of Howard's favorites in the hall. And there are lots of paintings, some anonymous. No indication that the painting of Pembroke and of Nevill were hung together for any reason, and really they're not together.
