A 37 year old slightly alcoholic man with a bright red nose and cheeks was an amateur fiction writer, but he was having trouble with his memory for words, and for everyday events. Even conversationally, he had to struggle for relatively familiar words. condensed matter physics learning fundamental physics can mislead you into thinking that the universe is somehow constrained-the laws of physics are deceptively simple, at least if you look at the 4 forces, and gravity, separately. but go just one level higher-condensed matter physics-and you realise that in this universe, anything that can happen, does. liquid helium that continues flowing even after you set the beaker upright, superconductivity, nematic liquid crystals behind your screen. just as matter obeys only what is physically permitted, human experience unfolds according to what is possible, not what is earned or deserved. the existence of superfluid helium proves that there is no such thing as being 'deserving' of love, no such thing as the moral are of the universe, only that which is permitted to happen-everything.
