I will also pull my Wildcat bots from Twitch, disrupting users and channels relying on my tools. My objections are based on the following verified facts: 1. Unacceptable Privacy Risks & Surveillance Ties: Persona is backed by Founders Fund, co-founded by Peter Thiel. Thiel’s other ventures, specifically Palantir, have deep contractual ties to ICE and government surveillance programs. Recent security research has exposed that Persona's own infrastructure has contained code for filing "Suspicious Activity Reports" (SARs) to federal agencies. Forcing streamers—many of whom belong to marginalized communities—to hand over biometric data to a company with these connections is a severe safety risk. 2. Security Track Record: Persona has been involved in recent security controversies, including the exposure of frontend source code on public-facing servers. This lack of data security is unacceptable for a vendor handling sensitive identity documents. 3. Redundancy of Data Collection: Twitch already collects legal tax information (SSN/TIN) during the onboarding process. Demanding an additional layer of biometric verification through a third-party vendor like Persona is excessive, invasive, and unnecessary for tax compliance. 4. Industry Precedent: Discord recently attempted to implement Persona for verification in the UK and was forced to cut ties and end the program following immediate and severe community backlash.
