A Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus) launching into flight from our farm in Acton Park, Western Australia. These medium-sized raptors are named for their distinctive, high-pitched whistling call that often echoes over wetlands, rivers, and open country. Whistling Kites are opportunistic hunters and scavengers, feeding on small mammals, birds, reptiles, and carrion. They’re also known for their skilful soaring, effortlessly riding thermals as they scan for food.
