SCT says that poverty is a serious problem in the Regina Public system. Approx 1/4 of students live in poverty. That's 6,750 children in our schools below the poverty line. #yqrcc

Tsiklis: I was doing a little fact checking while we were talking, I was just looking at the child poverty numbers. It's too high in Sask, it's embarrassing. I agree. But 25% overall poor isn't accurate. We already have tools for low income families. #yqrcc

Tsiklis: Were you aware that the overall poverty rate in Sask sits at 12.9%. I think that's 2023 data. Unfortunately we're tied for highest.
SCT: I don't think those numbers are correct. #yqrcc

Tsiklis: Why is that?
SCT: That's not the information I have.
T: What do you have?
SCT: I can't provide that right now. Several years ago I wrote a report on poverty in Regina Public. The poverty rate was above 20%. It would be higher than that w/ higher costs. #yqrcc

Froh: Given that we're on the public record, the child poverty rate in Saskatchewan is 27.1% as reported by Statistics Canada. #yqrcc
