Totally normal to use white as the low end of a scale.. but here, it just looks like the map is covered in snow

One other thing: I really appreciate weather.gov for providing a feedback survey link on that map (how many public vis include that?) I submitted some feedback so I'm not just passive-aggressively complaining into the social media void. Maybe something good will come of it?
Why is it normal to map white to a low quantity and blue to a high one? Would inverting the mapping improve it for you? How about using opacity instead of hue as a channel? Just comparing impressions.
