Dear Editors, I am writing with a correction to your recent article 'Who is Jimothy? Seven things you need to know about the internet’s favourite raccoon' at https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2026/jul/22/who-is-jimothy-seven-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-internets-favourite-raccoon. Early on includes the article includes the sentence: 'Punch the Japanese macaque orphaned in Ikea is so February.' However, Punch the Japanese macaque was neither orphaned nor in Ikea. He was born at the Itchikawa City Zoo in Japan and abandoned by his mother. The Ikea association is because his keepers gave him a stuffed ourang-outang toy from Ikea to cling to as a surrogate mother, see the WIkipedia entry on Punch and its sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punch_(monkey) I suspect you are conflating Punch with Japanese macaque with Darwin the Japanese macaque, who was found in a Canadian Ikea store in 2012 wearing a particularly stylish coat: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darwin_(monkey)
