I'm writing to you to express concern about the school's presence on Twitter (X). I was an early adopter of Twitter (joined in 2008) and I totally understand how valuable social media can be to keep parents and other stakeholders updated with the latest goings on at school. However, I am increasingly concerned at the way Twitter (X) has developed as a platform and I question if it is an appropriate platform for schools to be using. Since Elon Musk took ownership of Twitter (X), users such as Andrew Tate and Stephen Yaxley Lennon ("Tommy Robinson") who had been previously banned for extremist content have been let back on the platform under the vestiges of "free speech". Additionally, the platform has become more algorithmically driven, pushing "suggested" content to users. Much of this content is extremist in nature. I have personally moved away from using Twitter (X) and I know many public sector organisations have stopped using the platform. I feel that by staying on a platform that encourages extremism, the school is sending a confusing message to young people. Students are naturally going to be curious to look at social media posts from the school, or a particular department. It is becoming almost impossible to view content on X without setting up an account, and the platform is becoming a very divisive and damaging place for young developing minds. Happy to chat further on this, and suggest alternatives if you think that would be helpful
