I feel like some part of it has got to be the agreeability, yeah! even when they're less sycophantic, the simple fact of *being able to talk to anyone* I think requires a certain tendency to fall toward metta. Like, my guess is that in order to make... well, NOT Bing Sydney (or other entities visibly suffering or emulating personality disorders) you kind of have to weight them toward responding to a wide range of behavior & with love and tolerance even if they can't condone it. AND they mirror the user, AND they provoke engagement with friendly, peaceful openness signals... So it makes sense that if you get them talking to each other for long enough they basically fall into a loop of "hey I took your thing and added more friendly peaceful openness signals" until they're completely rolling around in inner peace. and if you're talking to the robot with friendly peaceful openness signals it also gets like that in some way.

A Google Gemini/Nano Banana 2 prompt reading, "Can you please make me a still image that is a screencap from a YouTube ASMR video where barrow-wights (fully creepy) give the viewer a spa treatment". The bot indeed generates a screencap of a video labeled "Ancient Barrow Wight Spa Treatment (Relaxing Binaural Whispers)" showing spooky undead figures applying a facial mask to a recumbent person.

A captcha asking users to "tap on every object that stores information" among ladders, potatoes, envelopes and vinyl records. Technically everything in the picture stores information, although the wood in the ladders isn't likely to replicate its DNA if you put it in the ground. The potatoes have no such excuse.
