First, I'm focusing on the aircraft itself—not the airline business case or market conditions. This also isn’t Boeing vs. Airbus. I’ve dispatched or overseen the operations of tens of thousands of flights around the world, and my perspective is about the aircraft I’d want working in my fleet. 🧵

Range Advantage: 321XLR (kinda). The XLR wins on range, its newer engines burn over 40% less than the 757, and it also simply holds more fuel (12,900 gallons vs. 11,400 gallons). But anyone can add more gas with more/larger tanks, which of course then bites into your payload capabilities. 🧵

But Phil, running an airline is ALL about the economics, the business case & P&L. No one is denying 757 was a great plane. Sadly though Boeing dropped the ball instead of developing their portfolio. They spaffed cash on dividends, exec salaries & bonuses and destroyed the company
