#OTD in 1959: The Day the Music Died—Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. “The Big Bopper” Richardson died when their chartered Beechcraft Bonanza crashed shortly after takeoff from Clear Lake, Iowa. The crash, which also killed the pilot, was blamed on poor weather and pilot inexperience.
