We only have 16 words in our database with the 'dj' spelling for the /j/ sound. They're all for words starting with 'adj'. Adjective is one of the more common ones. It's sort of odd that we don't pronunce the 'd' sound, but that's English for you.

On the morpheme side though, the 'ad' and the 'ject' are separate. So we end up with the 'dj' grapheme being split across two morphemes. The spelling 'aj' is pretty uncommon in English, only words like major or majesty. So the 'd' is there to keep the 'a' and 'j' apart.
