use a USB -> USBC converter to plug a USB keyboard into the phone "[space] -> [your pin] -> [enter]" will unlock it, if it's like mine and sometimes ignoes fingerprints and wants the pin. You should hear the unlock sound. remove keyboard and plug in a USB mouse. hold down both volume buttons for a few seconds to enable screen reader mode. it's loud, you'll know when it worked. It instructs you to "swipe" to toggle options. mouse movements will be the "swiping". begin activation on your new phone, following instructions from your carrier. the screen reader will immediately read prompts on your old phone as they pop up automatically. the mouse will enable you to toggle options (there may even be haptic feedback!) clicking (or double clicking) will select. Pray you're clicking the right thing to navigate to whatever "continue" button is necessary. The camera will turn on automatically if it wants you to scan a QR code. You should be able aim it okay. The screen reader will tell you when it prompts you to continue setup on the new device. You shouldn't need to touch anything on the old phone anymore! This all worked on two GOOGLE PIXEL phones specifically (3a and 10), transferring wirelessly. i can't guarantee other types of phones. Anyway I just avoided spending over $100 on a new screen, but it took hours to figure this all out, so I feel like I should share. If any one of these steps doesn't work, sorry I can't help you, but it was surprisingly straightforward! googling about this makes it seem impossible to do anything if you haven't previously set up your phone to cast to a computer. the key was activating the screen reader. thank goodness for accessibility features!

Okay so, we drove 2hrs (plus another hour in traffic) to the farther vet. It was a good idea though- they gave us a ton of information. We still can't afford the MRI, but the most likely diagnosis is that Tagalong has IVDD, which is where a damaged disc is pushing on the spinal cord. Prognosis on treatment for that is good, but it could still be something else. His heart is also beating weird?? (a "gallop") Knowing that if it's IVDD, he won't drop dead, I felt comfortable treating him at home over the weekend, while we get the funds in order. This is still a lot of "if"s. If it's IDVV, worst case scenario is permanant loss of the use of his back legs. Best case is near-full recovery. If it's an infection, a cardiac issue, or cancer... well. Reaching or getting close to the donation goal is still the only way to not put us in significant debt, especially with CareCredit's high interest rates, and everything needing to be paid up front or with a 75% deposit. This vet's rates are slightly lower than the nearby one, but we will still have to pay for a second neurologist consultation ($500), and it's still impossible to know what could come up during the scans.
