It's one of those books I wanted to read when I wasn't reading (it's been a while since I last felt that way), but at the same time I had some issues. Below are what might be considered spoilers. 1) This is not set in the future. Sure, the book says it takes place in the 2040s, but it feel more like the 2010s if an alternate version of Second Life had become popular for VR headsets. The "global energy crisis" only exists when it's convenient and people are only poor and on food vouchers until it's cool that you can be in a retro pizza place in the OASIS and order a slice of pizza that is delivered to you in the real world. 2) The main character is incapable of having a non-romanitc relationship to girl, unless she's gay. 3) It's transphobic. 4) Things are mostly explained when they come in handy for the plot. This seems like rookie writing. I found it rather distracting. 5) The white dude gets to play the "hero" (when it's fun and convenient to him) and of course he gets the prizes, including the girl - I'm just endlessly tired of this narrative.

The lace ends are clicked into two plastic things that’s held onto the shoe by the lace across the shoes closet to the toes.
