One service on top of the service I use the most (Bluesky) is PinkSea. And everyone, PinkSea honestly feels like magic. It’s this little pocket of the internet that actually gets this shit, it’s not about chasing clout or grinding for views, it’s just pure creation for the sake of it. PinkSea is basically this beautiful little online oekaki board built on top of the AT Protocol, and it feels like a time machine in the best damned way. You log in with your Bluesky account (or anything that's on the AT Protocol), and instead of uploading some art you've already made, you have to draw it right there, in the moment, using a built-in simple canvas. Just pure, in-browser drawing like the old internet used to have. But what makes PinkSea special isn’t just the tech, but also it’s energy. It brings back that raw, fleeting feeling of creating something just because you wanted to, and not because you needed likes or attention. Every piece feels a handcrafted, and a little vulnerable, and it is! And that’s what makes it so fucking real. It’s so rare to find a space like that now, where you’re not performing, but you’re just making. PinkSea feels less like a little hub, and more like a tiny, little world where art still belongs to the artist.
My favorite project besides Bluesky is a tiny site called PinkSea, a version of Japanese oekaki, bulletin boards for sharing digital drawings. I can log on to PinkSea using my Bluesky account information and post what I draw on both platforms simultaneously. In the Bluesky office, I pulled up PinkSea on Graber’s laptop, and she said that she had never seen it before. It is not a digital town square; with perhaps a few hundred active users, it’s barely even a digital dive bar. But its existence suggests the possibility of other creative projects on the protocol to come. Graber scrolled through the feed, which showcased both sophisticated anime figures and crude doodles, and her eyes lit up. “What excites me is new worlds emerging that I can’t imagine,” she said.

Protocol PinkSea is now running its own CDN. A true decentralised network means that all the components of the network are decentralised. Some components such as Relays haven gotten the most attention in conversations about decentralisation. CDNs are much less discussed, and virtually all content depends on the CDN of Bluesky. PinkSea is an ATProto platform for drawing and sharing images, and the platform now runs their own CDN that is independent of Bluesky. As far as I know this is the first ATProto platform that has their own CDN, marking another small step towards the network becoming more decentralised.
