Clay model of Paragorgia (Bubblegum Coral), now with added polyps. I am turning the colony around to show the open and closed polyps. It is a slightly enlarged model from real-life size, and just a part of a colony - the actual species can grow up to several meters.

A scanning electron microscope (SEM) image showing a tiny silica structure, so-called spicule, of the type anisochaela. Spicules are present in sponge tissue and are used for the identification to species for example. This spicule is elongated with a rosette of “flaps”, a narrow stem in the middle and a thickened, rounded end - looking a bit like a tree. Typical for SEM it is a greyscale image.
