Bike leaning against a picnic table with a beautiful sunset on Chincoteague Island on the Eastern Shore of Virginia I love this place, mostly because of its slow living and I can ride my bike from end to end and across to Assateague Island. It has a quirky library and a quaint bookstore. A tourist store that sells NASA tshirts. A steak restaurant that is pure bliss in its intimate atmosphere. A pizza place that is open on New Year’s and food trucks that feed so many. I’ve been here many times, but it’s always welcoming, never boring. I’ve been thinking and I’m going to try and go sometime soon. Even if just for a few days.

They were thinned out. Not seeing any evidence of wrongdoing, I put it off as my imagination. The next morning was the same. A few more flowers missing, but still no sign of what happened to them. On the third morning I solved the mystery. There on the ground, a path of lilies that ended up over the bulkhead and into the marsh. It was the muskrat! I found his burrow by following the flowers. I can only assume he thoroughly enjoyed the delicacy since there were many flowers sticking out of his den. And he must have been satisfied with his take, because he didn’t come back for more. And the lilies still flourished with blooms so it became just another story of animals in the garden.
