A screenshot of a document because bluesky is made by chimpanzees and doesnt let me write more than 300 letters New Year Thoughts (a bit late) I will be taking a break from high poly models as there is too much pressure required to make it financially sustainable. Despite my work being a lot better quality than it was, I have made ¼ this month as I did January of last year. I feel stuck. I would need to raise my prices on my high poly models to make it work, which I do not feel comfortable with at my skill level and with the world’s economy right now. I have had rough experiences with commissions lately, both on the client-end and the artist-end. After being on the receiving end, and realizing how frustrating it can be, I ultimately don’t want to keep giving people an experience that I personally would be annoyed with. SO, I am likely going to move to making low poly avatars, I have planned to do this since September last year. These will be less pressure, quicker, more experimental – and more importantly lower cost for clients. I will be able to put my own personal touches in to models more, instead of trying to directly copy off of reference sheets. I want to work with the skills I know I am good at, instead of trying to mold myself in to being industry-flavoured. The industry doesn’t want people like me and I can’t handle making industry-level work. I claim to be an artist, but I do commissions in a way that feels more like I’m assembling furniture and I don’t want to keep doing it like that. My current plan {after finishing my commissions} is to finish the Christmas gifts I had planned to do for friends – and then after that I will potentially be hosting a raffle for low poly models and doing random models until I gather enough examples to use to open commissions.
