Final Destination Poem by a ponderous turtle I remember walking through streets of beautiful gold, Where proud banners waved, where stories were told. Now, I walk through streets with a veneer of gilded dust, Where voices are hollow, and stories breed mistrust. The banners still wave, but now voices roar— None remember what they stood for. A feast for the greedy, a war of names, The rich play as kings, the people as pawns in their games. They build their empire towers high, above shallow graves, While the poor look up and wonder why, Bound by growing debt—unwilling slaves. I used to fight, I used to dream, But even rage feels too extreme. The grinding wheel has worn me thin, The battle is lost—I cannot win. Yet still, banners wave, and the youth take a stand, Their voices strong, their will unmanned. Perhaps it’s their time, not mine, Perhaps the fight was never mine. Let them feast, let them fight, Let them scream into the endless night I will step away—no pain, no breath, I welcome now my final rest The night is soft, the stars still shine, A final breath that once was mine. No fear, no pain, just quiet rest— A welcome end, a last caress.
