My Conspiracy Theory on Why Everyone is Using UE5 Now Even Though it's Ass: It has nothing to do with ease of development using the engine itself, and everything to do with the disposable nature of dev talent it enables. If you are using an internally developed engine like Frostbite, REDEngine, or whatever, you have to train new hires that aren't familiar, or retain established talent in between projects to build up a knowledge base for your internal tool. Fuck that, that shit costs money. Instead, use a commercially available, broadly popular engine like UE5. Who cares if it's an unoptimized, bloated piece of shit. You can lay off your staff after a game is released, and easily refresh your talent pool by churning through an endless supply of contractors who will still be familiar with publicly available engine, and you can pay them like dirt while crunching them instead of being forced to pay expensive company vets. Benefits are expensive, after all.
