Israel is enacting the next phase of its genocide of the Palestinian people: forced famine. For months, Israel blocked humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, pushing the population of more than 2 million people towards starvation and sickness. In June, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, backed by Israel and the US, took over aid distribution from the UN and reduced the number of sites from 400 to four. Israeli soldiers have shot, wounded, and killed hundreds of Palestinians while they seek desperately-needed food and aid. They have been aided by US contractors who have fired bullets towards and lobbed stun grenades at people waiting for food. As a result of Israel’s blockade and military action, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian children and adults are starving to death.
Today is a sad day for America, for those of us who believe in justice, and for those of us who believe that America’s diversity is the bedrock for a thriving democracy. PowerSwitch Action repudiates the cowardly decision by the Supreme Court to allow Trump’s blatantly unconstitutional executive order ending birthright citizenship to stand in many places across the country. Shame on the Court for yet again enabling the Trump regime’s autocratic push. Trump’s executive order is a white supremacist policy intended to call into question the Americanness of Black and Brown citizens and our right to belong. It’s part of a desire to undo the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. These are foundational principles of freedom forged through the crucible of war to end the crime of slavery. They are not up for debate.
