Each situation is different, but in general I think you are right here. Its easier now to have a long-distance relationship through technology, travel, etc., then in the past. And you shouldn't sacrifice your career for a relationship that might not work out anyway.

Life is full of regrets. What would you regret more, throwing away the potential love of your life or a job? You can have both. Personally, I’d be miserable grinding at a job and having that (and money) as my identity.
