There's no question that Trump is bombastic, but I personally believe that the country is in a far better place with him as president than it would have been under a Harris presidency. I had spoken with them months ago off the record, so it was a courtesy call I'd probably still get some blowback. After WSJ reached out to the Platner campaign for comment, Morris Katz demanded that I call the WSJ, retract my comments, tell them their reporting was inaccurate and send him a recording of the call. When I refused to lie for the Platner campaign he sent this text: "Just want to be clear on where we are right now. If the story goes in its current iteration we'll communicate directly on the record, and by name, that Genevieve violated the personal trust of Amy and Graham and shared explicit falsehoods to sabotage the campaign." We can talk specifically about Iran, but a lot of people would disagree and say that there was a combination of factors that led the Israelis and the Americans to think that they had a window of opportunity that they needed to take now. I think, partly, it was who was going to be targeted, a sense that we needed to do more on the ballistic missile threat, taking out more launchers. The fundamental goal was to remove Iran as a consistent terrorist power in the Middle East. Now people won't agree with that. But just because people don't agree with the rationale doesn't mean that there isn't a rationale —
decline due to trade imbalances that harm the United States and had been harming the United States for quite some time; decline due to a lack of pride in what America stood for and what America was; decline due to other countries taking advantage of our security guarantees. I'm giving you examples of the reasons. Now, I think, probably if you had a different guest on the show, there might be an agreement - that, yes, we were in decline - but the reasons would be different. The way that President Trump saw beginning that renewal was by addressing those trade imbalances; making sure that allies and partners did more for their share of security burdens; reinvigorating a sense of pride in America, putting that first and foremost. These were the concepts of: (1) high crimes and misdemeanours; and (2) “misprision” (sometimes spelt “misprison”). A.68 The first concept encompassed a number of separate crimes, including: treason,81 bribery,82 embezzlement83 and misconduct in a public office.84 The importance of the term was that it permitted prosecution by way of special procedure, not just by way of information or indictment in the ordinary courts; for example by way of statute (through the passing of “Acts of Attainder”) or impeachment.85 It was therefore used by either the Crown or Parliament to prosecute cases themselves outside of the usual court process. Impeachment: The Constitutional Problems Raoul Berger Impeachment, to most Americans today, seems to represent a dread mystery, an almost parricidal act, to be contemplated, if at all, with awe and alarm. It was not always so. Impeachment, said the House of Commons in 1679, was "the chief institution for the preservation of the government"; and chief among the impeachable offenses was "subversion of the Constitution." In 1641, the House of Commons charged that the Earl of Strafford had subverted the fundamental law and introduced an arbitrary and tyrannical government. By his trial, which merged into a bill of attainder and resulted in his execution, and by a series of other seventeenth-century impeachments Parliament made the ministers accountable to it rather than to the King and stemmed a tide of absolutism that swept the rest of Europe. Thereafter, impeachment fell into relative disuse during the eighteenth century because a ministry could now be toppled by the House of Commons on a vote of no confidence. Our impeachment, modeled on that of England, proceeds as follows: a committee of the House of Representatives may be instructed to investigate rumors or charges of executive misconduct. If the committee reports that it found impeachable offenses, it is directed by the House to prepare articles of impeachment, which are the analogue of the accusations contained in the several counts of an indictment by a grand jury. Strictly speaking, it is the articles that constitute the impeachment. The articles, if approved by a majority of the House, are then filed with the Senate. At that point, the articles are served by the Senate on the accused, who is given time within which to file an answer to the charges. At an appointed time, the Senate convenes as a court. If it is the President who is being tried, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court acts as the presiding officer. For instance, with the trans sports debate, over 60% of voters said they now support legislation requiring athletes in K-12 sports to compete with their biological sex, rather than with the gender they identify with.
