Today I was introduced to a quote from Ansel Adams that encapsulates how I’m feeling as a Canadian and Ontarian: It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment. When I voted for you as Ottawa Centre’s representative in Parliament, and even contributed to the federal Liberal campaign, I’d hoped that the interests of Canadians would be prioritized over those of corporate shareholders, or the capricious monument building of vapid premiers. Instead, I’m seeing that we’re playing footsie with separatists for the sake of the climate destroying oil industry, we’re ready to obliterate Toronto’s waterfront to needlessly augment a superfluous airport, and building ravenous data centres that will likely kick off the next disastrous financial bubble to burst. I’ve been an adult long enough to be disappointed by elected officials before, but I’ve never been more disappointed.
