Today's reminder is that sometimes there is the correct way to do things and then there's the way everyone does them. Are you supposed to pull back the trans and lock the flex plate to undo the crank pulley bolt? Yes. Does anyone do that? Not when jamming a belt you're tossing anyone locks it too.
