Any rubberists able to help here? This is a brand new top, brought home in its bag not touching anything. The bubbling appeared after being washed with viviclean/vivishine for the first time. I’ve only ever seen this kind of thing when latex touches vinyl but it’s not been anywhere near that.

Bubble wrap. Silicone. If it spent any time touching certain material it can interact. Bubble wrap especially. I wish someone with chemistry knowledge could explain.

I had this exact thing happen to a rubber suit never had any idea why it happened, took it to the manufacturer they had no idea either… but interesting you mention vivishine

Is it fixable? Should I moan to the maker?

I've had this but it turned out to be in contact with gas mask hose connector or GP5 gas mask eye ring. Rubber is a weird thing.

The only time I’ve had this is when rubber was in contact with silicone. It looked exactly the same. It took a couple of days to ‘relax’ back to being normal again. But it doesn’t take contact with the wrong materials for long to make it happen.

Heat and a pointy object perhaps?

I had a similar experience with a facemask that touched a toy made of silicon. I was really freaked out. But the mask eventually got back to its previous form after being « submerged » in lub for a full night. Maybe applying a lot of lub and wait a bit may fix your suit too 🤔
