It is left as an exercise for the reader to construct a reference frame in which the tortoise is moving quite fast actually

I once tortoise sat for someone. I will say that they are very slow when you're watching them, but the moment you turn your back they're off like a shot

What's needed here is really 1) a definition on the speed at which an animal is considered slow, 2) a list of turtles that surpass that threshold.

if you put a [citation needed] they'll often delete the whole sentence. which is sad! it's awesome that the encyclopedia reminds you that the slow animal is slow
