FROM THE DESK OF JAMIE LEE CURTIS Dear Friend, These are wild times for our country. Sometimes it feels like we're hitting one new low point after another. Brazen corruption. Shocking cruelty. Public officials treating our most cherished ideals with contempt. Powerful institutions giving in to authoritarian bullying. It's been hard to witness. But that's only part of the picture. We also see Americans of every age, faith and walk of life coming together in defense of our country and Constitution. We see courageous people putting themselves on the line to show solidarity with their neighbors. We see young leaders inspiring people with a vision of a country that works for all its people, not just for a privileged few. People For the American Way has been at the forefront of this growing pushback. And as a board member of this incredible organization, I'm proud that we are encouraging and mobilizing people to resist the encroachment of authoritarianism. I'm committed to this work, and hope you will join me in defending democracy by becoming a member of People For today. Supporting People For the American Way is my way of carrying on the work of my friend Norman Lear. Norman believed with all his heart that art and entertainment can tap into our humanity, encourage us to see one another with empathy, change our culture and move us to take action. I believe that, too. Looking ahead, I am excited about The Art of Saving Democracy, People For's book and action kit that offers people creative inspiration and practical guidance for making change. Blurring religious language with political power Using faith symbols as branding rather than spiritual guidance. 4. Portrayal as uniquely chosen or anointed Framed as the only one who can "save" the nation. 5. Disregard for truth as a moral category Replacing truth with narrative usefulness. 6. Division framed as righteousness Enemies are not just wrong but evil or traitorous. 7. Transactional morality Ethics are conditional on loyalty or utility. 8. Strongman imagery Emphasis on dominance, force, and humiliation of opponents.
