Kodi Tiller Taylor (born Kateri Taylor), age 40, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025. He was a beloved son, brother, friend, coworker, and a proud transgender man whose life touched people in many communities. Born on July 26, 1985, Kodi was the child of Paul Tiller Sr. and Paula (Herter) Tiller. He attended Holy Cross Academy in Verona, New York, graduating in 2003. Drawn to faith, teaching, and service, he went on to study Theology and Religious Education at Franciscan University of Steubenville, Ohio. Kodi served the Church for many years as Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Potomac, Maryland, where he worked from 2007 to 2017. Later, his love and compassion for animals led him to extend his studies and become a veterinary technician. For the past eight years, he worked at CARE Veterinary Center in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by a close circle of colleagues, clients, and friends—both human and furry—who adored him. Whether someone first knew him as Kateri or as Kodi, they quickly learned how huge his heart was. Outside of work, Kodi found chosen family and deep joy in his LGBTQ+ community. He especially cherished his Pride On The Patio family in Frederick and the queer and trans spaces where he could show up fully as himself—and offer that same welcome, safety, and laughter to others.
