She's an amazing writer! I am almost halfway through the book and I have been thoroughly entertained and enchanted since page one. I have zero criticisms of this book. It's like it was written for me! Most here have probably read it, but I cannot praise what I've read so far highly enough! I've laughed out loud numerous times and have had a smile on my face for most of it. I think it is especially because Miss Percy is "of a certain age" (as am I) and so I identify with her plight in general. I just cannot get over how much I love the writing and voice. I'm going to read some of Quenby Olson's Regency romances because I like her writing so much. Anyway, {Miss Percy's Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons) by Quenby Olson} Not sure if I did that right, but I tried.

The cottage they called home was not so much a house as it was a collection of architectural disagreements. The core of the original house consisted of a single bedroom and a kitchen that appeared to have both slowly sunk into the ground over time, as one had to step down to enter the house from the kitchen door. Over the years, several more rooms and an entire storey had been added, including but not limited to a sitting room (draughty), a bedroom (whose roof did not match the angle of the others), and a back corridor that appeared to have been stolen from a different house entirely. Despite all of this, it was theirs, rented from an absent landlord with a reputed fondness for brandy and a general abhorrence of social interaction, and with a roof — or roofs, as there was a wide variety of them for discussion — that only leaked in three places, which, by coastal cottage standards, was positively luxurious.

Sylvie nodded, suddenly untrusting of her own voice. It was nothing, she reminded herself. But Ollie had outgrown out of all of his picture books, and she still had the library fine hanging over her head, and it was a strange, surreal thing, seeing the little boy she’d read Elephant and Piggie to over and over again until they both could recite them all by heart holding a book filled with tens of thousands of words, an entire world written up for an imagination that had grown by leaps and bounds without her fully noticing.

She liked to imagine that Debbie had moved on to bigger and better things, like dental insurance or a place where no one argued with her about expired coupons.

Chemistry is a very interesting subject, I did like taking it this year. I’m not a very sciency person, the only other subject in science I’d enjoyed this thoroughly before was astronomy, and that’s more of an elementary-middle school subject so I felt a bit deprived last year taking general science, with only a few chapters on something I like. I got a lot of this info from Khan academy, Chemistry libre texts, and Wikipedia (though I tried to stay off Wikipedia as much as I could) It’s hard trying to find good sources when the little Google AI pop-up is constantly trying to tell you borderline misinformation and Wikipedia technically isn’t a proper source. But still, this paper was a fun one to write, with, or hopefully without sources being a bit of a scavenger hunt.

And this was all without mentioning the towers at each corner, the crenellated roof, and something that may or may not have been a parapet, if Susan could rightly recall what a parapet was.
