During the night of July 10th to 11th, thunderstorms broke out east of my position, over the Gard department. I was able to enjoy the show while staying dry from my vantage point, especially with this cell that formed near Avignon, showing beautiful convection illuminated by the storm. It produced a few stunning lightning strikes, like this one! What a joy to experience these atmospheres again after those long, hot days!

This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellites on 6 July 2026 at 00:22 UTC, shows the eye of Bavi close to the island of Rota, part of the Northern Mariana Islands, where winds exceeded 240 km/h. The storm’s dense cloud bands obscured the islands of Guam, Tinian, and Saipan at the time of acquisition. Copernicus data support emergency response efforts by contributing to damage assessment and disaster risk management across island and coastal regions.

Encore une "photo" générée par IA. L'auteur fait passer ça pour une vraie photo, ce qui n'est pas le cas et facilement démontrable qui plus est.

Prévisions Vigilances Météo France J+2 et J+3 Poursuite de l'épisode caniculaire avec possible extension en bordure des départements déjà en vigilance orange. La canicule sera particulièrement marquée sur les régions allant du sud-ouest au centre-est et en Provence. En parallèle de cet épisode, un risque d'orages localisés mais potentiellement virulents concerne l'ouest et le nord-est du pays samedi.

Another example of a strike during the evening of June 30, 2025, this time with a triple strike in the distance. The stars were starting to become visible above the convection, it was beautiful to watch!

As night falls, the storm seems to be strengthening and drops a few beautiful lightning strikes, like this one! I think a convective band in the foreground is hiding the exit point of this probably "bolt from the blue" strike. Once again, it's far away, but nice to watch from my vantage point, staying dry!

Storm chasing attempt in Gard on June 22, 2025. A total positioning fail in the end, as the cells erupted to the northeast and never reached us. We’ll make up for it with this stunning display of mammatus under the anvils!
A few more beautiful strikes from that unforgettable night of May 11, 2025! These are my last shots taken with the 18-55mm before switching to my 50mm prime lens to better enjoy the storm as it moves away. I’ll show you the results very soon in the next posts!
Still later that same evening, May 11, 2025. Even though the storm is slowly drifting away, it remains highly active, giving me the chance to witness stunning lightning strikes like this one. A real treat for the eyes and ears! Thunderstorm photography lightning
The double lightning bolt at the end of the road
Last year, I started working a bit more on my framing, particularly by playing with the lines of roads and paths. In this photo taken on the night of May 11, 2025, this effort shows quite well. Despite the distant thunderstorm, I find the atmosphere it creates really pleasant! I still have so much to learn and experiment with when it comes to photography and composition!

Moon photography
When a storm moves away, it's not always easy to get beautiful compositions, but I really like this one. Even though the lightning strike is distant and less aesthetic, its alignment extending down the path beautifully embodies the idea of "the road to the storm." There's still a long way to go before mastering the art of storm photography! And I really like this rendering!

A little later on the evening of May 11, 2025, after finding a new viewpoint, I was able to watch the thunderstorms slowly move away to the east. The electrical activity became more discreet, leaving a few rare but beautiful lightning strikes to tear through the sky and illuminate the beginning of the night. A superb atmosphere!
At the end of my chase on the night of April 19 to 20, 2025, I watched the cells move away, their tops continuously lit by lightning. The lightning strikes were distant, but the full beauty of the phenomenon revealed itself to me when a powerful convective turret generated a pileus! In short, a superb finale with a starry sky!
