The light flickered red on the council, illuminating the words "Recording" in a glow that reminded Viktor of hell spawn and flames. He sat, microphone in hand, his notes in his hand as he began to speak. "This is Doctor Viktor Talis of the ARC, head senior Argent engineer, recording from the ARC facility near the border of HZ1106," he began. Exhaustion edged in his voice. His mind was in a haze, and he found himself willing to kill for just one more cup of coffee to take the edge off. That, or a cigarette, though he wasn't about to admit that one to his husband. He hadn't had one since he had left the Mars base for his medical leave, an event, both he and Jayce had since learned, likely saved their lives. They just wondered how long their luck would hold out, now that the demonic invasion had made its way to Earth six months ago.

i dont agree with accusing artists of ai without proof but their art does look a little strange especially if u look at the details. like the art of racing jayvik viktor's shirt is all fucked up. theres details that dont make sense at all I'm the person who sent the last straw about the art and please ignore it i don't wanna cause the artist anything :/ i agree with you

Viktor could feel something thin running into his nose, deeper than the cannula delivering oxygen, something that was taped carefully to his face, and he couldn't help a quiet noise of displeasure at the intrusion. Thin fingers wrapped around the tubing, but before he could give it an experimental tug, something warm wrapped around his fingers. "Hey, that has to stay in." a voice warm a familiar drowned out the beeping of machines, and Viktor's unfocused gaze followed it. In the darkness of the room, he could see a face, though it was too dark to really make out the features. What was wrapped around Viktor's fingers managed to pry them away with ease. Viktor tried to will his fingers to fight back, but his body was hardly in a place to cooperate. He felt his arm get tucked against his side and wrapped with the blanket with a motion that suggested that this was likely not the first, nor even the second or third, time this occurrence has happened. "I know it's unpleasant," the voice said with what sounded to be a huff of relieved amusement. "But I don't want you stuck in the hospital longer because you finally managed to pull out your feeding tube." For a moment, familiar hazel eyes met Viktor's golden ones long enough for Viktor to place a name to the voice and face. Jayce. Jayce, disheveled and tired, like he had been awake for days. A date on the board in front of his bed that didn't match what Viktor could remember. A feeding tube and the feeling like he hadn't moved in days. Ah. It would all make sense if Viktor's head didn't feel like it was still stuffed full of cotton.
"What if we don't find our way back to normal?" Jayce's voice was quiet, a quiver of worry betraying his feelings. There was silence outside of the frying pan, and for the first time, he had seen Ximena, both this version and his mother, seem to mull over what to say with caution. The aroma from the pan reminded him of home, and yet the woman before him seemed to be different, at least for a moment. Finally, she spoke, finding brevity better than caution. "You don't." she finally admitted. "That normal is long since gone, and chasing after it will only bring you heartache." she turned to him, and the expression she had may have been a smile, but there was a sadness to it. "You have to work towards a new beginning. The reality hit Jayce, and he had to close his eyes to hold back tears. He knew she was right. He just had not been ready to face it.
She moved around him with a practiced grace as he helped, setting a kettle on the stove and setting out a couple of mugs before grabbing a canister of tea. It felt like home in a way, Jayce reminded of being a young man home from the academy, visiting his mother and helping her in the kitchen as she helped remind him where his home would always be. He took the offered tea with thanks, appreciating the warm aroma that emanated from it and allowed himself a moment of fond memories before he found himself being ushered from the kitchen and to a chair at her dining room table. It was a familiar song and dance of mother and son, even though this lacked that familial connection. That same song and dance include a familiar playful argument, insisted on as Ximena placed a pot on a stove and asking he stay for a meal, already preparing food before Jayce had the chance to decline. Still, he tried anyways, insisting on not imposing, but as he set his now empty

"It's not shameful to ask for help." Ximena continued, nor is it healthy to shoulder the burden on your own." she stole a quick glance, oddly motherly in her gaze despite this iteration having never been a mother. "And for Viktor, I know you think you are helping, but have you bothered to really ask him what he wanted?" "I…" That got to Jayce. He hadn't. He had seen the man try and lock himself away and, as he always did, try to bull rush through getting Viktor out from behind his walls.

"Did… did I say anything… strange?" he wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer, but he needed to know if it was his mind. Or if it was something trying to take over it. "You weren't making much sense." Ximena admitted. "But that's not unheard of." Viktor swallowed the growing lump in his throat. "What… what was I saying?" Ximena was contemplative for a moment, as if she was trying to figure out the best course of action in handling a skittish creature in her care. "You were speaking of a commune, talking about how everyone could be of one mind without pain." Viktor's heart felt like it stopped, the cold sense of dread washing over him. "You don't need to answer me." again, her voice was gentle and understanding. "Did you flee from a cult?" Viktor closed his eyes, trying to stop the tears that were threatening to fall. "Something like that." he said, voice a quiet whisper.
Jayce watched as Viktor fell to his knees, the support of the strangely armored guards gone as they let go of the man they had just dragged back to the small room they found themselves trapped in. He couldn't help but to wince, seeing the twist in Viktor's leg once more causing him to be unstable enough to fall onto a floor of hardened steel. Still, Viktor didn't flinch. He kept his once more golden eyes trained beyond the door, defiant as he straightened himself out. Jayce rushed over, nearly tripping over the chain attached to the shackle around his ankle, taking more care to kneel next to his partner, a hand sprawling over thin shoulders. He wanted to speak, but his eyes caught movement of someone walking into the room past the guards. The man was lanky and tall, taller than Jayce, a coat of stark white wrapped around his frame as he held his hands behind his back. Embroidery was etched into the coat, indicating that this man was "Dr. Corin Reveck". His face was angular, sharper than even Viktor's, hair brown and receding betraying the man's age. His eyes, dark and beady, stared down, trained on Viktor's burning gold ones. "Who are you?" Jayce demanded as he tried to move between Viktor and this stranger, but Viktor held out a hand to stop him. Jayce looked over in shock, and he couldn't help but to notice the recognition he saw on Viktor's face. "I know you are far more intelligent than you are trying to lead on." Corin said, his voice even and calm. "No one can hide a brilliance like the one you have in your eyes. So I ask you again— help us discover the secrets you know." Viktor's face twisted into one of frustrated anger, a look Jayce wasn't sure he had ever seen on the man. Not even when he had said his cruelties on the bridge in what felt like a lifetime ago.

"So, you want to tell me how long something like last night has been going on?" Jayce said as he watched Viktor bring his coffee to his lips. The other froze, the steam billowing before a thin face as Viktor's brows furrowed. Jayce could see Viktor's jaw set, lips pulled down in a frown. The pause told Jayce that Viktor was trying to calculate which explanation may work. "I must have overheated. Made my way to the couch to make sure you wouldn't feel uncomfortable." golden eyes refused to meet hazel, the gaze down cast as if Viktor was contemplating the contents of his mug. If there was one thing that has never changed, it was that Viktor was a terrible liar. "I think we both know," Jayce fought to school his voice as he carefully set his fork down. "That I know better." The flinch in Viktor's expression was so minute that Jayce had nearly missed it." "I don't see what the concern is, Jayce." The words cut more than they should have, though it was clear that had not been Viktor's intent. "Viktor, what happened yesterday when we where working, and last night… It was like you weren't even here." Jayce forced himself to sit up, trying get Viktor to look him in the eye. "Viktor, I'm worried. We can't just be dancing around things like this anymore and pretend they don't exist." Viktor's gaze faced Jayce, hardened, a fire behind his eyes as his lips turned downward. There was a pinch in the brow as his eyes narrowed. Jayce had always known Viktor to be a patient person, so how quickly anger set in came as a shock. "Oh, like how you talk to me about your nightmares, Talis?" Viktor hissed back, voice low and defensive. "Like how you weren't telling me you weren't eating? Like how you aren't telling me how much pain you are in?"

Desolate. That was how everything felt before him. Little stood in the way of landscape, the air around him clouded and blurry, a downcast grey surrounding him on all sides. He couldn't make out building nor human, save for a singular figure standing before him. A familiar frame of a cloaked shadow, shrouded by the mist. Something familiar, Jayce moved forward, reaching out for them. He found himself clothed in familiar garb of a long lost time. Red and gold adorning white finery, Piltovan in design, and something long since lost to him. It made him sick to see, if he were to be honest. He pulled his hand back, before surging forward, stumbling over his own feet as he pushed past the mist, expecting to see faded grey tarnished with oil-slick pinks and violets.
