And the network keeps expanding as more apps launch. Thanks to our standard.site integration, Bluesky users can now read articles, blog posts, and newsletters from across Atmosphere-powered apps like Leaflet, Offprint, and pckt. We will add more ways to highlight and integrate new apps as they launch. A few that recently caught my eye: Skysquare, Gifthood, Roomy, Mu, co/core, and Standard Reader. Those are all from just the last few weeks, a snapshot of the breadth of innovation happening in the Atmosphere.

I was happy posting here when I knew my communities could be under my control w/ Fediverse integ. But, with Meta not keeping their promise, I stuck to platforms where I can be rest assured that my communities stay with me. I just don't want to be in a place where my relationships are held hostage when there are better options. I post a lot on the open social web, and hope to see you there!

If we want users to find their spaces on the open social web, we cannot make it more complicated than simply letting them sign up while providing interoperability and an exit plan. No talk of decentralization, no conceptual idea of what an interconnected web of platforms could look like in a decade, and certainly no loud arguments about why your platform is better because it supports the forgotten FLiPFLoP standard of the 90s (No, this is not real. Yes, this is how you sound to average users.).
There will come a day when we can debate which protocol is the greatest of them all, what the definition of decentralization is, and which company, organization, or developer did it best. We should have that conversation when the open social web is what users have chosen as a default option. But first, interoperability.

People, not Platforms The endgame is not Mastodon, Bluesky, or Threads. The endgame is finding communities on the web and following them all on the best platform for you. We don’t have to enclose ourselves in walls of our own making or force users to understand the nuances of every platform and protocol. It’s time to give people tools that empower them to make decisions that fit their needs. That is how we truly make the social web open.
