RPG Maker 2003, and to a much lesser degree its successor MV (which I also dabbled in), are tools that leave a noticeable inprint on the final result of your hard work. Some people go so far as to call them "mod-platforms", but I disagree with that point-of-view; they *are* an engine, just not exactly a graceful one. In exchange for a faster and easier development process (which you, of course, might find desireable!), they are unmistakeable in their presence surrounding the games you make in them. Many people can spot an RPG Maker within seconds of playing it - especially those with an intent to derogatize your efforts.
