Steve2222 6/05/26 - 6:01AM An expectation that the current body will convene meetings, roll up sleeves, and get the heavy lifting done seems misplaced, in my view. The Council is deeply divided, and the "pro-Wu" vs. "anti-Wu" division narrative that the Globe EB and columnists often settle on is simplistic. There are forces in play undermining the opportunities available for collaboration. Consider, for example, that on social media there's a widespread belief, promulgated by a number of Councilors, that cutting the BPS budget and laying off teachers and paraprofessionals is a nonstarter, despite (as stated by the EB) enrollments are down and schools are being closed. That type of righteous viewpoint on where cuts can and can't be made is prevalent. And the Globe touched on the pettiness at play, but the level of theatrics and histrionics on display every week, without any accountability by lead actors, is staggering. To summarize: 1) I don't see the Council being especially productive on the budget issue, and 2) more accountability is needed to call out bad actors. The Globe narrative that the division among Councilors breaks down into two sides based on alignment with the Mayor, and that both have equal culpability, is off-base. One "side" (often the 6 of 13 that band together) is responsible for most of the conspiracies on social media, the drama in the Chamber, the opposition to proven concepts backed by data, and the inability of the Council to sit down and do more than give dramatic speeches. Here's the way Mrs. Martin makes old-country homemade Italian spaghetti Homemade Italian Spaghetti Sauce 4 cups light tomato sauce (if sauce is thick, add 1 cup water) 2 teaspoons sweet basil or oregano 2 teaspoons salt Place tonato sauce, basil or oregano and salt in medium saucepan. Cook over high heat until hour. Add meatballs and cook 30 minutes. Pour over freshly cooked, drained pasta. Serves 4 to 6., Meatballs 2 cloves fresh garlic 2 eggs, beaten 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sweet basil 1 pound ground beef. ½ pound fresh sausage ½ cup dry bread crumbs ½ cup grated Romano cheese 2 tablespoons salad oil Finely chop garlic and add to eggs, salt and basil. Combine beef, sausage and egg mixture. Stir in bread crumbs, grated cheese and oil. Blend thors amount of hot oil until brown.
